The Macintyre River is a river in the northeast of the Australian state of New South Wales. Partly it forms the border between New South Wales and Queensland.

The source is located on the western slopes of Mount Rumbee north-west of Guyra and southwest of Glen Innes in the table-land of New England. From there, the river flows northwest through Inverell, Ashford and Yetman.

A few kilometers east of the Dumaresq River Boggabilla opens out, which forms the border to Queensland until then. West of the mouth of the Macintyre River forms this border and flows between Boggabilla and Goondiwindi west. He branches out before Mungindi in the Barwon River and the Boomi River.

Tributaries of the Macintyre River are the Swanbrook Creek, which opens at Inverell, Severn River with its mouth at Ashford and the Dumaresq River which opens into Boggabilla. These rivers are some of the Border Rivers, a group of rivers on the border between the two states.

The Macintyre River often results in floods and the largest city on the river, Goondiwindi, has flood walls, the water levels up to 11 m above withstanding, as occurred during the major floods in Queensland for the year 2010/ 2011.
