The Anaga Mountains ( Spanish: Macizo de Anaga ) located in the northeast of Tenerife. It is 20 km long in east-west direction and extends from north to south in a width of 5 to 10 km. The mountains were shaped before seven to nine million years ago by volcanic activity. The highest points are the Cruz de Taborno with 1024 m altitude in the west of the mountains and the Chinobre with 909 m in the east. The crest of the massif, which is the wettest region of the island due to fog and rain, overgrown with laurel forest.

1987 Nature Park was established, which was made in 1994 as Parque Rural de Anaga under special protection. Greatest place in the Anaga Mountains, with around 700 inhabitants is Taganana, which lies in a wide overhanging valley, near the Atlantic coast. Since 2013, the area is also a Biosphere Reserve.

Typical of the Anaga are also the caves in the volcanic rock whose facades and interiors are similar to those prevailing local single-family homes, such as in Afur and Chinamada. The mountains are full of legends about witches and covens.

Tourism

The Anaga Mountains are heavily developed by a road over the crest. From it branch off numerous hiking trails and forest roads that make different viewpoints and all areas of the forest accessible. The Anaga Mountains is a destination for walkers and nature tourists. A natural spectacle is also the meter high surf on the rocky and steep sloping north coast. Visited with a lot of photo opportunities are the rocks at Almaciga de Tenerife and Las Palmas, in particular the Roque de Anaga and Roque Bermejo. The Roque de Anaga is the northernmost tip of the island of Tenerife.
