Mackay Trophy

The Mackay Trophy was donated in 1911 by Clarence H. Mackay, the then head of the Postal Telegraph - Cable Company and the Commercial Cable Company. The award is administered by the American National Aeronautic Association (NAA ) and once a year by the United States Air Force for the " most laudable flight of the year" ( "most meritorious flight of the year" ) awarded.

Criteria

The trophy is awarded for the " most laudable flight of the year" by a member of the Air Force, a private individual or organization. Individuals are to be preferred before organizations. It is awarded for gallantry and intrepidity; for exceptional initiative, ingenuity, and the achievement of outstanding results in combat and non-combat situations.

Nomination

Within the U.S. Air Force Commanding officers are responsible for reviewing, assessing and reporting Candidate flights. This message is carried by 31 January of the following year on the internal staff hierarchy up to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force.

Selection

The selection of the winner will be personally by the Chief of Staff.
