Macon is a city in the U.S. state of Missouri and the administrative seat of Macon County.

Location

Macon is located about 230 kilometers northeast of the city Kansas City in northern Missouri.

History

The roots of the city of Macon and Macon County date back to the early 19th century, when on January 6, 1837 previously independent Chariton County and Randolph were merged to Macon County.

The name of both the town and the county was chosen in honor of Nathaniel Macon, the soldier in the Revolutionary War was and listened as representatives of North Carolina for many years in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States.
