Macramé

Macrame ( Spanish spelling macramé ) denotes a coming from the Orient knotting technique for the production of ornaments and textiles. Spanish macramé is derived from the Arabic migramah. In Arabic usage, this is 'weaving' for. In contrast مقرمة / miqrama stands for " knotted veil ".

History

With the Crusaders and the Muslims ( about Spain ), this technique came to Europe. Here she experienced since several flowering periods in which partly arose very fine Knotarbeiten. The last heyday in Germany in the 1970s, with usually very rustic -looking work.

To find a

  • Chinese macramé, to bring happiness for the New Year
  • Macramé Owls, a traditional form of macramé
  • Table cloths, belts, wall hangings, and more.
  • Latin American macramé, especially jewelry ( bracelets, necklaces, etc.)
  • Uniform pieces of jewelery, badges of rank

Carrier thread and working thread

The threads that carry node, hot carrier threads. The threads that form knots, hot working threads. Carrier threads never make loops. Clearly visible is the difference in a hanging basket, in which the flower bowls are held by the supporting threads and decorated by the working threads.

Makrameeknoten

Essentially, there are only two basic knots in macrame. For one thing, the half- node ( see also the square knot and the wave nodes ).

Half nodes ( set right)

And on the other half of the shock (see also the ribs nodes).

( Defined working thread to the right as possible ) Half shock

Kreuzknoten

The square knot, weavers or flat node consists of two Half nodes. If the knot tied as here about a support line, the square knot is also known as Salomon nodes.

Example with four cords

Links defined Kreuzknoten

The two central fibers are carrier threads and the two outer working threads. The right cord is placed in a loop over the middle two threads to the left. The left cord is on the right and run behind the two middle strings to the right. Thereafter, it is from the rear to the front, through the loop of the right line.

The process is repeated, but this time the loop with the left outer thread is created and the right does what previously did the left.

Law specified Kreuzknoten

A series of alternating left and right nodes or Half Right and Left Half node generates a Salomon band which not twisted and a straight pattern generated.

Wave nodes

When macrame and Platting spiral patterns are generated with the Indian node. Hence the name " nodal ". Two identical half- nodes form an Indian nodes.

Trossenstek ( Josephine knot or pretzel knot )

Example with four strings: 1 The middle two are the carrier threads and the two outside the working threads. The right-hand line is laid in a loop over the two intermediate filaments, the left cord is located above the right rope is then fed past the two middle strands back and then pulled back to front through the loop to the right string. 2 This node is always repeated. It always starts with the right loop. The series of the same Half node creates a Rotated belt, also called Schraubenplatting. The result is a spiral pattern.

2 spiral to the right

Ribs node (also Webeleinenstek )

Reverse node, also links node, P- node ( Webeleinenstek with working thread to the left as possible ). The working thread ( white) remains left by the carrier thread are (gray). If a result of this link nodes linked, produces a right-to- left spiral.

Alternating nodes with the working thread a Half shock (left continuous) and then with the carrier thread a Half shock ( right continuous) is linked first.

Belt Example: Ten working threads ( blue) and a support thread ( orange): The working threads are along the observer and the support thread across them. Above and below by a yellow " edge theme" limited. Macramé knots works of art ranging from dimensions by a few centimeters up to impressive 10 meters.
