Macramé

Macrame ( Spanish spelling macramé ) denotes a coming from the Orient knotting technique for the production of ornaments and textiles. Spanish macramé is derived from the Arabic migramah. In Arabic usage, this is 'weaving' for. In contrast مقرمة / miqrama stands for " knotted veil ".

History

With the Crusaders and the Muslims ( about Spain ), this technique came to Europe. Here she experienced since several flowering periods in which partly arose very fine Knotarbeiten. The last heyday in Germany in the 1970s, with usually very rustic -looking work.

Carrier thread and working thread

Essentially, there are only two basic knots in macrame. For one thing, the half- node ( see also the square knot and the wave nodes ).

The square knot, weavers or flat node consists of two Half nodes. If the knot tied as here about a support line, the square knot is also known as Salomon nodes.

The two central fibers are carrier threads and the two outer working threads. The right cord is placed in a loop over the middle two threads to the left. The left cord is on the right and run behind the two middle strings to the right. Thereafter, it is from the rear to the front, through the loop of the right line.
