Macrianus Major

Fulvius Macrianus, also Macrianus Maior († 261) was a Roman general in the time of the kingdom crisis of the 3rd century.

Macrianus was one of Valerian's generals and had great wealth. His wife was of noble birth, he, however, only a soldier. After Valerian's capture by the Sassanids in the year 260, he was disqualified due to a paralysis as a Roman emperor. However, with the support of Ballista, the praetorian prefect of Valerian, succeeded him, to let his two sons, Macrianus Minor and Quietus raise emperors.

He marched his troops from the province of Asia to the west, but was defeated in Thrace by Gallienus ' general Aureolus. Macrianus and his son Macrianus Minor were killed. The other son, Quietus, was later murdered by Septimius Odaenathus of Palmyra.
