Macro recorder

A macro recorder is in application programs, such as text editors or office suites, or in operating systems, a tool for recording macros in order to allow the user to repetition of program operations and automate repetitive actions. The recorded macros can be stored for later use. Depending on the application and the underlying mechanism, the recorded macro actions are only made repeatable, or converted to a script language. Recorded scripts can be modified in the appropriate editor.

Known applications with macro recording are the programs of the MS Office package with the VBA scripting language, the text editor Notepad ( no record in a scripting language, only action repeat) and the text editor jEdit with the scripting language BeanShell.
