Macroplata

Macro Plata tenuiceps

Macro Plata (size = " large plate " ) was a representative of plesiosaur from the Lower Jurassic. The animals were 4.5 to 5 meters long, had a 60 to 70 centimeter long skull, with a narrow, crocodile -like, long extended snout and a neck that reached twice the length of the skull and was supported by 29 short neck vertebrae. The name derives from the genus were the plate-like enlarged shoulder blades.

Two species have been described, the type species Macro Plata tenuiceps from the Hettangian, the almost complete skeleton found in Warwickshire in the Midlands, as well as Macro Plata longirostris from the Toarcian of Whitby in Yorkshire.
