Macroscopic scale

The terms microscopically and macroscopically (from Greek μικρός "small" or Greek μακρός "wide, large" and Greek σκοπεῖν " watch, look at " ) are different perspectives that focus on the Small or leave this aside.

In some cases that's true so agree whether to use a magnifying glass for viewing or a microscope, or whether it is limited to the visible with the naked eye structures ( Freisichtigkeit ). In medicine, it is called the observation by the naked eye macroscopy (see Macroscopic anatomy).

In physics, but is meant by a viewing microscope usually at the level of particles (such as atoms or its components ), are included in the typical quantum effects, such as interference of the wave function. With macroscopically one thinks, however, the consideration of statistical variables according to the law of large numbers. A gas, for example, macroscopically homogeneous, microscopically it consists of individual molecules with a lot of empty space in between.

In solid-state physics and chemistry between microscopic and macroscopic lying transition region is referred to as mesoscopic (from Greek μέσο "center" ). Here material properties depend though on the size of the system from, for example due to a large mean free path, but the large number of atoms thwarted resolution of the energy spectrum into discrete levels. Put simply, the mesoscopic range extends to a length scale of about one nanometer to one micrometer.
