Mad Libs

The improvisation game Mad Libs (from the English " ad lib ", which in turn from the Latin " ad libitum " - " as you wish " comes ) is a game of words with a predetermined gap text. A player asks a series of words by another player to insert it into gaps of a story. These inserts have a funny effect when the story is read aloud. The game is especially popular with American children and is often played as a party game or as a pastime. Mad Libs was invented in 1953 by Leonard B. Stern and Roger Price. In 1958 she self-published the first book "Mad Libs ". The publisher Price Stern Sloan, now a sub- publisher of the Penguin Group, which was founded by Price and Stern, published today many more.

Expiration

Mad Libs books have a brief history on each page, but are instead the most important words spaces. Under each of these indicators are given which specify the words to be used (eg noun, verb, place, or body part. ) One player asks the other players take turns for words that correspond to these specifications and which he can use in the gaps, but without the context of the search word to explain. Finally, the finished story is read. The result is usually funny, surreal and mostly nonsense.

An example of a Mad- Libs - sentence:

"One day ________________________________ to New York to see _______. "               Verb ( past tense ) noun name After the game could come out that:

"One day Marco Polo ate to New York to see an egg. " Mad Libs was often imitated, most imitations are on the Internet. They are sometimes used for language teaching purposes.

In Germany a similar game under the name Uncle Otto sits known in the bathtub. The English language can hardly be bent in the nouns, verbs and adjectives, offers far more favorable conditions than the German for this game.
