Madaoua is a department in the Tahoua region in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the south of the country, bordering Nigeria. It consists of the township Madaoua and the rural communities Azarori, Bangui, Galma Koudawatché, Ourno and Sabon Guida. The eponymous capital of the department is Madaoua.

History

After independence Niger in 1960, the territory into 32 districts ( circonscriptions ) was divided. One of them was the district Madaoua. 1964 divided an administrative reform in Niger seven departments, the predecessor of the later regions, and 32 arrondissements, the predecessor of the later departments. As part of the district Madaoua was converted to the district Madaoua. In 1998, the former arrondissements of Niger were raised to departments, each headed by an appointed Council of Ministers is prefect. The structure of the department in communities exists since the year 2002. Previously, it consisted of the urban center and the Canton Madaoua Madaoua. The 2013 appointed Prefect of Madaoua is Sorka Mounkaila.
