Madarounfa is a department in the region of Maradi in Niger.

Geography

The Department is located in the south of the country, bordering Nigeria. It consists of the town of Maradi, the municipality and the rural communities Madarounfa Dan - Issa, Djiratawa, Gabi, and Sarkin Yamma Safo. The eponymous capital of the department is Madarounfa.

History

The area originally belonged to the district of the department of Maradi, in the Madarounfa the status of an administrative post ( poste administratif ) had. The Maradi district was disbanded in 1972 and raised the administrative posts Madarounfa for Arrondissement. In 1998, the former arrondissements of Niger in departments were converted, each headed by an appointed Council of Ministers is prefect.
