Madball

Madball is a native of New York and founded in 1988, hardcore punk band that set the style for later metalcore groups. Madball is, together with Agnostic Front and Sick of It All the most important representatives of the New York hardcore. Singer Freddy Cricien is the half brother of hardcore legend and Agnostic Front vocalist Roger Miret.

History

Thanks to its big brother Cricien got his first gig: At the age of seven years he tugged Miret on stage, and gave him the microphone in his hand. His own band founded in 1988 with Freddy Madball and Cricien eventually took over the role of the singer. In the initial occupation still played the former members of Agnostic Front in the other roles: So was Roger Miret bassist Vinnie Stigma, guitarist of Agnostic Front, took over at Madball this role and the drums was occupied by Will Shepler, who is also at Agnostic front played this instrument. The band initially played mainly material of the band and big sister was only regional basis.

One year after its foundation, the band released their first EP titled Ball of Destruction. Having met with Matt Henderson, a second guitarist for the band, was published in 1992 by Droppin ' Many Suckers second EP.

The following year, Roger Miret left the band and was replaced by Hoya Roc. The first album of the band, Set It Off, appeared in this new line-up in 1994 to Roadrunner Records, followed in 1996 the album Demonstrating My Style. During this time, the band established increasingly in the New York hardcore scene and had henceforth to their fixed sizes. In 1995/1996 produced and published in 1999 NYHC Documentary on the New York Hardcore worked with, inter alia, also Madball. And after yet another line-up change ( John Lafatta replaced Walter Ryan on drums, who was himself again stepped in temporarily for Will Shepler ) was published in 1998 the next album Look My Way.

After the release of another album titled Hold It Down in 2000 - this time on Epitaph Records - put the band in 2001/2002 a several months break. Then the cast was changed again: Mitts ( previously at Skarhead ) took over the guitar and Rigg Ross ( previously with Hatebreed ) played on drums. In this configuration, the band released the album Legacy (2005, Ferret Music / Roadrunner Records) and infiltrates the system (2007, Ferret Music / I Scream Records ), 2004 EP NYHC and in 2003 the compilation The Best Of Madball.

2009 saw Rigg Ross to Skarhead, which is why the drums had to be reshuffled again. Ben Dussault now assumed this role, but was soon replaced by Jay Weinberg, son of Max Weinberg. With this lineup the published on Good Fight Music and Nuclear Blast in October 2010 album Empire was recorded. In September, even before the publication of this album, Weinberg was fired and replaced by Igor Wouters by Born from Pain due to personal conflicts. Since 2012 Mike Justian (ex - Unearth ), who toured with the band since 2011, a permanent member on drums.

In June 2012, appeared with rebellion the latest EP of the band, first as a digital download. Autumn is also a version followed on record.

Style

Stylistically, the band is clearly attributable to the New York hardcore punk. But come on recent recordings also increasingly added influences of Thrash Metal.
