  • Robert Pöpperl - Berenda wrote in the German magazine Rock Hard following review: " The mother of all live albums has now already nearly 30 years under his belt! What Purples house and yard engineer Martin Birch has ( he assumed this role is well known, and later with Iron Maiden ) with equipment that does not even reach more home recording standard today, magically, has never been surpassed. Even later became fashionable fake live albums with plenty of overdubs, and canned applause can not keep up with Made in Japan. The majority of the shots came from the show in Osaka on August 16, 1972. However, Smoke on the Water found in the version of the previous day on his way Made in Japan because Ritchie Blackmore actually found in the two other recorded through takes ( the third night in a Tokyo instead of ) the opening riff vernudelte. Completists need to define the triple- CD Live in Japan, necessarily, where almost the entire three shows are nachzuhören. The highlight is, of course, Child in Time, which should be settled in this version each satellite, leaving our solar system. Aliens would then have a clear idea of the best music they can find on our planet. I was allowed to Child in Time once in the Mk II lineup hear ( ie with Gillan and Blackmore ), which I will certainly still have my grandchildren proudly tell ... ". The magazine published its 2007 list 500 best albums of rock and metal. Made in Japan placed here on the 39th place and was the fifth- höchstplatzierteste live album of the list. No album the band has also achieved a better place in this list.
  • Farin Urlaub, singer and guitarist of The Doctors, Made in Japan referred to as " the first rock moment in life ."
