The Madejski Stadium is a football stadium in the English town of Reading, Berkshire. It offers 24 161 spectators covered seats and is the home stadium of FC Reading.

History

The stadium was inaugurated in Reading on 22 August 1998. Is named the stadium after entrepreneur John Madejski, the club president of FC Reading. It is located on the southern outskirts close to the M4 motorway and was built on the site of a former landfill. Around the stadium ventilation fans are embedded in order to derive the rising methane gas into the soil. The cost was around £ 50 million. The playing field consists since 2007 of a natural grass reinforced with synthetic fibers interwoven and was moved by the company Desso Sports Systems. In this method, approximately 20 million artificial fibers 20 cm deep into the ground over the field. The cost of the artificial green amounted to about £ 750,000. Distributed in the stadium are available 128 places for wheelchair users. To the stadium complex is the 4-star Hotel Millennium Madejski Hotel Reading.

In the season 2006/07 FC Reading is the first time represented in the Premier League. As a result, the stadium was almost always sold out. In order to meet this increased demand, the club is planning to expand to at least 10,000 more seats.

The rugby union club London Irish rents the stadium for their home games, it is also the goal of the annual Reading Half Marathon. The Rugby Club Richmond FC played in the 1998/99 season in the stadium of Reading. In the Madejski Stadium regularly hosts concerts, including the Summer XS Festival.
