Madeleine Peyroux

Madeleine Peyroux ( born 1974 in Athens, Georgia ) is an American chanson jazz singer and songwriter.

Life

As a small child she lived in Georgia, in the U.S. South. Her parents, who were working, retired with her to New York when she was six. In the borough of Brooklyn and later in Southern California, she grew up and went to school. When her mother divorced her father, she took the daughter to Paris. Around the year 1990, she was active as a street musician in Paris metro passages, which represents as well as in New York City a recognized type of livelihood as a bohemian. Then she went for years with the Lost Wandering Blues & Jazz Band on tour. In 1996, she was hired by a manager of the record label Atlantic Records as a soloist for a record deal. The album Dreamland brought her a lot of appreciation and attention. The loss of undisturbed privacy she did not like. Therefore, they shunned the public. There is the anecdote that their record company hired a private detective in August 2005 because of a ruptured media appointment that they track him together with their manager.
