Madeline Tompkins

Madeline Lynn " Mimi " Tompkins ( born February 14, 1952 in Port Acres, Jefferson County, Texas) is an American pilot. Mimi Tompkins was the first female pilot of the Hawaiian Aloha Airlines airline and began her career as a co-pilot on the Boeing 737-200.

She became internationally known as a co -pilot of the Aloha Airlines flight 243 on 28 April 1988. In 24,000 feet ( 7,315 meters) altitude, the aircraft suffered a sudden loss of pressure caused by the demolition of one-third of the cab roof. Tompkins assisted Captain Robert Schorn Theimer the following emergency descent and subsequent emergency landing on Maui.

Tompkins later became the first Flugkapitänin of Aloha Airlines and flew further Boeing 737-200 and Boeing 737-700 on trans-Pacific routes that airline until this April 1, 2008 ceased flight operations. Since then she has worked for Hawaiian Airlines as a first officer.
