Maderas

The Maderas is a stratovolcano in Nicaragua. He is on the island of Ometepe after Concepción ( volcano) the second highest. In historical times it was not running. In its crater is a crater lake.

The Maderas is one of the few places on the Pacific side of Nicaragua on which cloud forest grows.

The only other place with cloud forest is the Mombacho.

The cloud forest is characterized by high humidity and by a variety of fauna and flora. On the Maderas petroglyphs were found. Climbing the Maderas is a tourist attraction.
