Madirac

Madirac is a commune of 190 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. It lies in the catchment area of ​​the city of Bordeaux, in the canton in the Arrondissement Bordeaux Creon.

Geography

Madirac located in the southwest of France in the region of Entre -deux-mers between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne, 16 km east of Bordeaux, the capital of the Aquitaine region, and 5.4 kilometers southwest from the cantonal capital of Creon, on an average height of 65 meters above sea level. The village is surrounded by the neighboring communes of Saint - Genes-de - Lombaud, Saint- Caprais -de- Bordeaux, Cenac, Sadirac and Loupes. History

The Bouzet family arrived in 1543 by the marriage of Marguerite de Pons you Bouzet with Madirac in the possession of the Seigneurie Madirac. The Seigneurie remained until the French Revolution (1789-1799) in the family. The last Seigneur before the revolution was Léonard you Bouzet, he was a knight of the Ordre royal et militaire de Saint- Louis. His commission and the genealogical records of his family branch were burned in October 1793. This was a consequence of the Law of July 17, 1793 ( to II), which ordered the burning of the documents which had the land or the genealogy of the nobles to content. In the same year Madirac received the status of a municipality. 1801 received by the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte ( 1769-1821) the right to local self-government.

The former priory of Saint -Jean was under the Abbey of La Sauve -Majeure. The Priory is destroyed. Only the bell of the abbey church is obtained, it is located in Saint -Caprais -de -Bordeaux, as the parishes of Madirac and Saint- Caprais -de -Bordeaux were merged at the beginning of the 19th century.

Attractions

The canteloup castle was built in the 18th century. In the 19th century farm buildings have been replaced. It is privately owned.
