Madison County (Kentucky)

Madison County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Richmond.

Geography

The County is located east of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of ​​1148 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fayette County, Clark County, Estill County, Jackson County, Rockcastle County, Garrard County and Jessamine County.

History

Madison County was formed on August 1, 1785 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named after President James Madison. During the Civil War here near Richmond a battle 1 to 2 Brigade of the Kentucky Army took place on the part of the Union and Confederate Kentucky Army on 29 and 30 August 1862, and were victorious.
