Madison is a city in Jefferson County in the U.S. state of Indiana. It was founded on April 1, 1809, and is now ( County Seat) of the county.

History

Historical buildings

  • In Madison is the Madison Historic District. The district includes buildings 1666 and was accepted as a historical monument with the number 73,000,020 on 25 May 1973 by the National Register of Historic Places. It is also listed in the National Historic Landmark.
  • The Madison Historic District there are a number of prominent buildings. These include (also known as Shrewsbury Windle house) including the Charles L. Shrewsbury House. The mid-19th century built house and was accepted as a historical monument with the number 94.00119 million on 19 April 1994 by the National Register of Historic Places and the National Historic Landmark.

Madison had in the year 2000 12.004 inhabitants in an area of 23 square kilometers. Most working people are no longer working as an average of 17 minutes from their home address away.

Madison has a boat race tradition that goes back to 1911. Today, the village is also known for the Madison Regatta, a Hydroplane Regatta, which takes place each weekend around the Independence Day on the Ohio River. In 2001, a film starring Jim Caviezel was filmed in Madison, which treats of this boat race.

The Milton -Madison Bridge connects the town with Milton.
