Mae Clarke

Mae Clarke ( born August 16, 1910 in Philadelphia, † April 29, 1992 in Woodland Hills; actually Violet Mary Klotz ) was an American film actress.

Life

Mae Clarke worked as a dancer in night clubs before they played in the late 1920s in several Broadway plays. Her career as a film actress began in 1931. Clarke played the role of Kitty in The Public Enemy ( Public Enemy ), one of the classic gangster movies of Hollywood, next to James Cagney. Also in 1931 played her best known role as Elizabeth in James Whales horror classic Frankenstein. Other roles which Clarke played in the same year, were the Molly Molloy in The Front Page and Myra Deauville in Waterloo Bridge.

In two other films with James Cagney, The womanizer (Lady Killer) and Great Guy Mae Clarke played one of the lead roles.

For unknown reasons, Mae Clarke then experienced a career slump and she played up in the 1950s, only minor supporting roles. Followed by appearances in television series and films. By the year 1970 was followed by several smaller roles in movies before Mae Clarke retired from the film business.

Mae Clarke was married three times, each of her marriages ended in divorce.
