Mae Klong

The Mae Klong ( Thai: แม่น้ำ แม่ กลอง - Maenam Mae Klong ) is a river in the western part of the central region of Thailand. The river begins at the confluence of Kwae Noi and Kwae Yai Kanchanaburi. He opens later in the province of Samut Sonkhram in the Gulf of Thailand.

The river is 140 km long.

In the 1960s, the headwaters of the river was renamed to the provincial capital of Kanchanaburi in " Kwae Yai " ( แม่น้ำ แคว ใหญ่ Maenam Khwae Yai, " Big Creek " ), because at that time the famous " River Kwai Bridge " over the Mae Klong and not via the River Kwae ( Kwai ) led.
