Mae Sariang District

Amphoe Mae Sariang ( in Thai แม่สะเรียง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) along the Yuam River in the west of the province of Mae Hong Son The Mae Hong Son province is located in the northern region of Thailand. The district capital is also called Mae Sariang. Both the architecture and the large proportion of Burmese Muslims remember the proximity to Myanmar.

Geography

The surroundings of Mae Sariang is very mountainous and consisted of dense forest. Therefore, it is a popular destination for refugees from Myanmar.

Neighbouring districts (from north clockwise): Amphoe Mae La Noi province of Mae Hong Son, Amphoe Mae Chaem and the Hot province of Chiang Mai, Amphoe Sop moei turn in the province of Mae Hong Son and the Kayin State and the Kayah State of Myanmar.

The Salawin National Park is also in this district.

The main river of Mae Sariang is the Yuam, part of the border with Myanmar is the Salween (also Salween, Thai: Salawin, แม่น้ำ สาละ วิน ) formed.

History

In 1900 the administration of the territory was formally constituted as a district ( Amphoe ) of Mae Hong Son province fixed. His original name was Mueang Yuam ( เมือง ย ว ม ), but was changed in 1917 in Mae Sariang.

Management

Amphoe Mae Sariang is divided into seven communities ( tambon), which continues in 77 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

There are two small towns ( thesaban tambon) in the district:

  • Mae Sariang ( เทศบาล ตำบล แม่สะเรียง ), consisting of parts of the tambon Ban Kat and Mae Sariang
  • Mae Yuam ( เทศบาล ตำบล แม่ ย ว ม ), consisting of the entire Tambon Mae Yuam.

In addition, there are six " Tambon Administrative Organizations" (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล - administrative organizations) in the district.
