Mafac

MAFAC - Manufacture Arvernoise de Freins et Accessoires pour Cycles ( Arveni manufactory for bicycle brakes and accessories) was a French manufacturer of bicycle brakes.

The company was founded after the Second World War as " Sécurité ", but changed their name in 1947 to MAFAC. The company specialized in cantilever brakes. Many French racing wheels ( Peugeot, Gitane etc. ) were equipped with the brakes of the company. In the late 1980s presented a MAFAC its production.

The company had 12 wins with one of the most successful cycling Rüster the Tour de France. Greg LeMond, Hinault Berard, Laurent Fignon, Jacques Anquetil ( five Tour victories ) and others slowed their wheels with Mafac brakes.

Brake Models

The early models were mostly cantilever brakes, which were produced until the early 80s. These early on Mittelzugbremsen were produced.

The good braking performance wheels with wide sheaths led zutr using MAFAC brakes at the first mountain bikes. Mafac brakes were used in the first mass- MTB range as the 1982 Specialized Stumpjumper.
