Mafeteng is the capital of the district Mafeteng in Lesotho. It is located about 76 km southwest of the capital Maseru and is the westernmost city in the country.
History
Mafeteng was founded in 1874. It was named after the French missionary son Emile Rolland, who Lefeta ( German: the man who goes by ) was called. Literally, Mafeteng: the place of Lefetas people. The city had 12,598 inhabitants in 1986 yet, it was in the 1996 census already 20 804. For 2005, we already went out of 57,000 inhabitants. This Mafeteng is the third largest city of Lesotho.
Infrastructure
Today the city is home to many schools and administrative facilities.
Economy
In Mafeteng there is the company Lesotho Pharmaceutical Corporation ( LPC), which manufactures pharmaceuticals and exported to several countries in the region.
