Magdalena Matte

Magdalena mat Lecaros ( born August 13, 1950 in Santiago de Chile) is a Chilean politician. She was from 2010 to 2011 Minister with responsibility for Housing and Urban Development in the cabinet of President Sebastián Piñera. Mat Lecaros is a member of the Conservative party Unión Demócrata Independiente ( Independent Democratic Union; UDI).

Life and work

Mat Lecaros is the great-granddaughter of former Chilean President Arturo Alessandri. Her grandfather Arturo Matte Larraín was in Chile Minister of State and presidential candidate in 1952, and co-founder of Empresas CMPC paper manufacturer, one of the largest companies in Chile. She studied civil engineering at the University of pontifical right Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile ( PUC) in Santiago de Chile. In 1974 she married Hernán Larraín, the 2004-2005 President of the Senate in Chile. Together they have six children, including the well-known film director Pablo Larraín.

Mat Lecaros sat down in the Chilean domestic politics often for social projects. So it is considered as a strong advocate for female start-ups.
