Magellan Navigation

Magellan Navigation Inc. is the name of a manufacturer of GPS devices for satellite- based positioning. In the non- military sector Magellan 's main competitor, the American manufacturer Garmin.

The original company Magellan Systems Corporation was founded in 1986, sold to the Ashtech Corporation in 1999 and acquired in 2001 by the French defense and electronics group Thales Group and renamed Thales Navigation in. 2006 Thales Navigation by an investor group led by Shah Capital Partners, a private investment company based in Santa Clara, California, was acquired. The company was renamed Magellan and offers GPS solutions for consumers under the brand Magellan. The GPS solutions are now offered under the name of Magellan Professional.

Magellan Navigation is a company based in San Dimas, California. It manufactures hardware and software for satellite navigation. It was 1989, the first company to manufacture with the NAV 1000 includes a GPS receiver, PDA-sized for the home users. Although on a high technical level, the devices but are in contrast to competing products from TomTom and Garmin in Europe (no longer) so widespread and therefore not so well known.
