Maggia

Maggia is a municipality in the district of Maggia, in the district of Valle Maggia the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It was established in its present form on April 4, 2004 through the merger of the former municipalities Aurigeno, Coglio, Giumaglio, Lodano, Maggia (old church ), Moghegno and someo.

Geography

The municipality is located in the lower and middle part of the Maggia Valley north-west of Locarno. The various districts are located on both sides of the Maggia.

History

The municipality was created on 4 April 2004 through the merger of several municipalities of the Maggia.

Population

The community numbered end of 2004, 2'358 inhabitants. Of these, 2,115 ( = 89.7 %), Swiss nationals and 243 immigrants from other countries.

Policy

The council consists of five members. In addition, there is a local parliament.

Traffic

Most quarters are opened up by the line 315 of the FART Locarno Bignasco - Cavergno. The majority of the districts located on the main road from Locarno through the Valle Maggia.
