Magliano in Toscana

Magliano in Toscana is a municipality with 3611 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Grosseto, Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The municipality covers 250 km ². It is located about 28 km southeast of Grosseto and 130 km south of Florence in the vineyards of Morellino di Scansano.

The districts include Maiano Lavacchio, Montiano, Pereta and Sant'Andrea.

The neighboring municipalities are Grosseto, Manciano, Orbetello and Scansano.

History

Originated in the Middle Ages was the location under the control of the Aldobrandeschi and from 1274 was under the place the Count of Santa Fiora. In the 14th century, the Republic of Siena gained dominion over the place. After the defeat of the Sienese Republic in 1555 against the Republic of Florence, the city fell to the Duchy of Tuscany.
