Magneric

Magne Rich (Latin Magnericus ) ( † after 586 ) was about 566 since Bishop of Trier, he is a Catholic saint. His feast day is 25 July. In the diocese of Trier, it is July 23.

Life

Magne Rich was a student of Nicetius. In the year 566 he was elected by the clergy and people of Trier bishop. He was one of the first bishops that no Roman, but a Germanic name and wore one of the first Swiss francs on a bishop's throne. He continued the policy begun by his predecessor, the restoration of the city of Trier and its environs. The Holy Cross Church, he converted to an oratory in honor of Martin of Tours. For this later went out the Abbey of St. Martin. In his time the Roman city walls were founded several clerics communities, among others, St. Eucharius and St. Paulin north. As an admirer of Martin of Tours is said to have built four churches which were dedicated to the saint. One was in Ivois, one in Carden, one in Trier and one on the Deumelberg in the city.

Magne Rich was close to the Merovingians and Childebert II made it 586 to be the godfather of his son Theudebert II In 587 he took part in a meeting of the Merovingian family. Here, the Duke Boso fled into his house and took the Bishop hostage. This was in danger, as the king ordered to set fire to the house. To 581 he campaigned for the Bishop of Marseilles, when they brought to King Childebert II as a prisoner by these Trier. The proximity to the Merovingians and its influence on the fortunes of Austrasia and the Gallic Church helped that he was able to maintain an urban and regional domination.

Venantius Fortunatus described the bishop as virtuous and charitable and " ornament of bishops ". In his diocese lived many pious hermit. The Hermit and Stylit Wulfilaich he forbade his hermit life, let destroy the pillar on which he lived, and caused him to enter a monastery.

In St. Martin Monastery, he was buried after his death. Around the year 1000 the abbot of the monastery of St. Martin Eberwin has written a Life of Bishop. Thereupon his worship spread in Lorraine. In 1506 his grave was opened. After the destruction of the church disappeared and his remains.
