Magnesium acetate is a chemical compound selected from the group consisting of magnesium compounds, and acetates. It is the magnesium salt of acetic acid.
Production and representation
Magnesium acetate can be prepared by reaction of magnesium oxide or magnesium oxide with acetic acid.
Properties
Magnesium is present as a white odorless solid. At temperatures above 135 ° C, the compound decomposes. It is also used as a front tetrahydrate, which is in a monoclinic crystal structure similar to nickel. The space group is C2H5 - P21 / c and two molecules in a group with an edge length of a = 475 pm, b = 1179 pm, c = 852 pm, and β = 94 ° 54 '.
Use
Magnesium acetate tetrahydrate wid in the preparation of other chemical compounds, and used for analysis. In combination with calcium ( calcium magnesium acetate ) it is used as road salt. Furthermore, it can be used in the dyeing of textiles, as a catalyst for polyester production, in the manufacture of cigarette paper and the offset printing. Medically pure magnesium can be used in dialysis solutions.
