Magnetic Ink Character Recognition

MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) refers to a special variant of the character recognition (OCR ) as it is used mainly in the United States to process checks. Here, on the one hand the figures are printed in a special font called E-13B. In addition, the ink used for printing magnetizable iron oxide particles are added.

By means of a magnetic reading device can be processed with a much higher recognition rate, and a higher processing speed of these characters than would be possible with conventional OCR process.
