Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography

Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography ( MRCP and also MR cholangiopancreatography ) is a noninvasive method for the preparation of the bile duct system and the main excretory ducts of the pancreas by magnetic resonance imaging. Case, a selective excitation of the water signal in MRI with subsequent three-dimensional evaluation.

The MRCP is used for diagnosis of bile duct stones, pancreatitis and malignant and benign bile duct tumors.

MRCP compared to ERCP non-invasive and thus significantly less risky. However, there is no possibility of a therapeutic intervention, e.g. for the production of histological material, or for therapeutic scaling.
