History

The first edition appeared as large format paperback, with 1119 pages on thin paper. You should after an unconfirmed rumor, have been largely bought up and destroyed by order of the Catholic Church. Perhaps because of this or maybe even because of the small edition of only 4000 pieces, the first edition is a bibliographic rarity.

The Congregation for the Doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church put the book shortly after its release on it ( 1965/66 abgeschafftes ) "List of Prohibited Books ". Against the author, it imposed an excommunication.

In 1960, a second abridged edition appeared generally unnoticed under the translated title into the Croatian language Velika optužba in the series Društvo i religija ( society and religion ) of the publisher Svjetlost in Sarajevo.

It was not until the third edition, which was published in 1986 when Nova knjiga publishing house in Belgrade, probably in light of the worsening nationality conflict within Yugoslavia, paid more attention by the public again. The demand of the Roman Catholic weekly Glas Koncila, to provide instead of an untested reprinting of the work, the new edition with its own source edition remained unheeded.

In 2011, the fourth edition was published in two volumes, with a limited edition of 1500 pieces in English.
