Magnus Johansson (ice hockey)

Magnus Johansson ( born September 4, 1973 in Linköping ) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player. Since 2009 he plays for Linköpings HC in the Swedish Elitserien.

Career

Johansson began his career in 1990 in his hometown at Linköpings HC. Back then, this association Division 1 Södra, one of the second-rate leagues in Sweden, at. At the age of 18 he was captain of his team un spent seven years at the LHC.

In the season 1996/97 was the Linköpings HC of Tommy Boustedt serves as head coach. When he joined the Elitserien for Västra Frölunda HC, he took Johansson with there. Despite its relatively small stature to Johansson quickly established itself in the top division in Sweden and developed within the next few years into one of the best point defender in the league. In 2003, he won the Swedish championship with Frölunda and then moved the first time in Europe: Johansson signed a one-year contract with the SCL Tigers of the National League A.

A year later he returned to Sweden and was obliged by his club, Linköpings HC, who had meanwhile risen to the Elitserien, for four years. In Linköping, he was again appointed captain and led his team to the biggest successes the club's history: a second place in the 2004/05 season, reaching the play-off semi-final in 2006 and the finals in 2007.

In June 2007 he signed a contract with the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League, but was released after only half the season to the Florida Panthers. A year later, he joined the Continental Hockey League to Atlant Mytischtschi and was there to the point best players. In April 2009, Johansson returned to Linköpings HC and was confirmed there as captain.
