Magnus Lindberg

Magnus Lindberg (* June 27, 1958 in Helsinki) is a Finnish composer.

Life

Magnus Lindberg studied composition at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in Einojuhani Rautavaara and Paavo Heininen as well as Vinko Globokar in Paris. He is friends with the Finnish conductor Esa -Pekka Salonen.

In 1992, he received one of the prestigious Music Awards the Royal Philharmonic Society in London, in 2000 he won the first European composition prize at the Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin. 2003 Lindberg was awarded the Wihuri Sibelius Prize.

2008/ 09 he had in common with Kalevi Aho, who was chairman of the jury, and Anders Eliasson judge of the 2nd International Uuno Klami composition competition.

From September 2009 to 2012, he was composer in residence at the New York Philharmonic and composed as a commission the work EXPO, which opened the first concert of the new chief conductor Alan Gilbert.
