Magny-Vernois

Magny- Vernois is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Magny- Vernois situated at an altitude of 289 m above the sea, 2 km south-west of Lure, and 24 km east-northeast of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the eastern part of the department, in the plane of Lure, on the eastern bank of the river Reigne.

The area of ​​6.38 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the level of Lure. The Floodplain on the edge of the Vosges is on average 285 m. It is crossed by the rivers Ognon and Reigne that flow with multiple turns through a formerly swampy area to the south. The plane is used partly agricultural, partly it is passed with forest. At several places there are fish pond.

The eastern boundary runs along the Ognon. From the river, the municipality's area extends westward across the plain of Magny and the lowlands of Reigne up on the adjoining plateau of Grand Bois, by Picot and to the south by Razou is bordered by two tributaries of Reigne, in the north. With 312 m is reached on this plateau, the highest point of Magny- Vernois.

Neighboring communities of Magny- Vernois Lure are in the north and east, Vouhenans and Vy- lès -Lure in the south and Amblans -et- Velotte and Bouhans -lès -Lure in the West.

History

The origin of the settlement Magny- Vernois formed a grange, which was from the monastery Lure dependent. To her was also a mill on the Reigne, which was renovated in the 18th century and still exists today. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The village is mentioned in 1505 under the name vernay Magny, 1748 Magny Vernoy.

During the Thirty Years' War Magny- Vernois was destroyed in 1636 by Swedish troops. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the place with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. A blast furnace was established in 1659 in the 18th century of importance to the economic life of the village, in the 19th century it was replaced by a foundry. In 1780, a large part of the village fell victim to a fire. Today Magny- Vernois is a member of the comprehensive 22 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Lure.

Attractions

The church of Saint - Desle was built in the 19th century. It houses a statue of St. Desle (17th century) and paintings of the Savoyard painter Gamon - Dupasquier ( 19th century). Three stone wayside crosses date from the 16th and 18th centuries. Also worth seeing is the newly built in the 18th century former mill of the abbots of Lure of the Reigne.

Population

With 1337 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Magny- Vernois one of the larger towns in the Haute- Saône. Since then, the population has almost doubled. The settlement area of Magny- Vernois has grown together with that of Lure.

Economy and infrastructure

The village is situated away from the larger passage axes near a secondary road that leads from Lure to Villers Exel. Further road links exist with Vouhenans and Amblans -et- Velotte.
