Magong, Taiwan

Magong or Makung (Chinese马 公 市/马 公 市, pinyin Mǎgōng Shì, Tongyong Pinyin Mǎgong Shih, W.-G. Ma -kung Shih, PEH oē - jī Má - keng - chhi ) is the capital of the Republic of China on Taiwan belonging Pescadores Islands. She has, according to the census of 2012 58.490 inhabitants and thus is home to well over half the population of the archipelago, off the west coast of Taiwan lies some 60 km in the Formosastraße.

The Tianhou Temple in Magong is the oldest Mazu temple in Taiwan. The city is also known as Mǎgōng Ao (Chinese马 宫 澳/马 宫 澳or originally as Magong AO Chinese妈 宫 澳/妈 宫 澳) or known as Mazu Pasat seaport. The first (Chinese ) characters of the name was originally妈( "Mother " ) and then in 1920 during the Japanese colonial era (see History of Taiwan ) to马( "horse" ) changed. There were ambitions of the Executive Yuan to introduce the妈again, but his support was too low.

Magong has a domestic airport.

History

Between 1895 and 1945 included the Pescadores Islands, Formosa, as well, to the Empire of Japan.
