Magreglio

Magreglio is an Italian municipality with 658 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the province of Como, Lombardy.

The place is located above the Lake Como, west of the southern arm. The neighboring municipalities are Barni, Bellagio, Civenna, Oliveto Lario and Sormano. The municipality is part of the mountain community Comunità Montana Larian Triangle.

The attractions of Magrelio heard the small sanctuary of the Madonna del Ghisallo. The present building dates from 1623 and contains a venerated as the Madonna del Latte image of Mary.

Magreglio was a frequent destination of the Giro d' Italia and the Giro di Lombardia, mostly coming from Bellagio. The Madonna del Ghisallo is revered as the patron saint of cyclists since 1949. Opened in 2007, the Museo del Ciclismo Madonna del Ghisallo is dedicated to the sport of cycling.

The municipality maintains with Friedberg in the Wetterau a partnership. The German -born poet Albert H. Friedberg noise, also known by his pen name Henry Benrath lived here in the time of World War II until his death in 1949. He rescued by his intervention the village from the German invaders.
