Magüi Serna

Magüi Serna ( born March 1, 1979 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; actually Maria Luisa Serna ) is a former Spanish tennis player. It reached number 19 in early 2004 in the WTA world rankings and won in her career three WTA singles titles and two doubles.

  • Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open as a qualifier; it reached all four Grand Slam tournaments in the first year as a pro at least the third round ( U.S. Open: Eighth )

1998:

  • Quarterfinals in Hilton Head Iceland after victory over the world number three Jana Novotná;
  • Second round French Open and Wimbledon

1999:

2000:

  • Quarter-finals at Wimbledon after defeating the seeded Mary Pierce 3

2001:

  • Double semi-final with Conchita Martínez at the Australian Open;
  • First tournament victory in Estoril

2003:

  • Tournament victories in Estoril and Budapest within 2 weeks; Second round at the French Open

  • Double victory at Eastbourne
