Maha Sarakham (also Mahasarakam in Thai มหาสารคาม ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง มหาสารคาม ) in the Thai province of Maha Sarakham. It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Maha Sarakham Maha Sarakham Province and the.

The city Maha Sarakham has 40,154 inhabitants ( 2012).

Geography

The Maha Sarakham Province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, Isan. The city Maha Sarakham is situated in the heart of Isan, in the midst of the Khorat Plateau. The distance to the capital Bangkok is about 450 kilometers.

Economic importance and
