Maharbal

Maharbal, a Numidierfürst, was an officer of the Carthaginian general Hannibal in the Second Punic War. He was Hannibal's deputy at the siege of Saguntum 219 BC and came out in the course of the war against the Romans primarily as a cavalry leader, so before the battle at Ticinus (218 BC) and after the Battle of Lake Trasimeno (217 BC). In the battle of Cannae, he commanded the right wing of the Carthaginians. After their victory, he asked Hannibal to march immediately against Rome. When the Carthaginian general refused, Maharbal to have answered him: "To win you know, take advantage of Hannibal, but not the victory." Maharbal is no longer mentioned after the year 216 BC in the sources.
