Mahbubnagar district

Mahbubnagar, also Mahabubnagar ( Telugu: మహబూబ్ నగర్ జిల్లా; Urdu: محبوب نگر ضلع ) is one of 23 districts in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The administrative center is the city of Mahabubnagar.

Geography

The district lies to the west of Andhra Pradesh. It is to the west by the state of Karnataka, surrounded to the north by Rangareddy district, in the east of the districts of Nalgonda and Guntur and Prakasam districts in the south of the and Kurnool.

The district has an area of ​​18,432 km 2 and is the second largest district in Andhra Pradesh (6.7 % of the area of Andhra Pradesh ). 3033 km 2 of the area is forested ( 16.5 percent). The most important rivers in the district are the Krishna, Tungabhadra, Vendi, Peddavaagu and Chinnavaagu.

Economy

The majority of the population is employed in agriculture. Mainly sorghum ( sorghum), rice, cotton, maize, pigeon peas, peanuts and sugar cane are grown. In addition, hand weaving is an important industry. There is little industry. In mineral resources one can find different types of rocks ( limestone, granite, etc.) and sand, which are used industrially. In the cities, people live from trade in goods and services.

History

Mahbubnagar is part of the Telangana region and shares its history. The district is part of the land of the Cholas, " Cholawardi ". The present name given district and the capital on December 4, 1890 in honor of Mir Mahbub Ali Khan Asaf Jah VI, the then Nizab of Hyderabad. By 1956, the area was a region in the Hyderabad State. Since then, Mahbubnagar is an administrative unit within the then newly created State of Andhra Pradesh.
