Mahmut Atalay

Mahmut Atalay ( born March 30, 1934 in Çorum, † December 4, 2004 in Ankara) was a Turkish wrestler. He was Olympic champion in 1968.

Life

Mahmut Atalay grew up in Çorum in Asia Minor. As a teenager, he worked as the majority of the Turkish world class wrestler, the oil - wrestling match. Only at the age of 18 he started in 1952 with the Olympic rings. It took a relatively long time until he had grown into the Turkish top class of freestyle wrestler. It was not until the late 1950s, he was admitted at the age of 25 years in the Turkish national team of wrestlers.

In the national team he had throughout his career, some very well known and good coaches such as Adil Candemir, Celal Atik, Nasuh Akar and halite Balamir. After the Olympic champion from 1960 İsmail Ogan who wrestled in Mahmut weight class, his career ended, the way for this for the international championships was free. From 1961 he started for Turkey until 1968 in many championships. However, it took until 1965 before he was able to win an international medal. Since the Turkish wrestler in free style include along with the Soviet athletes and the Americans among the strongest in the world, it is no surprise that Mahmut Atalay by the Turkish Wrestling Federation received so many chances. Ultimately, he justified this trust when he became world champion in 1966 and 1968 Olympic champion. Notable Wins he succeeded in doing over the world-class wrestler Abdollah Movahed, Iran, Guliko Sagaradse and Sarbeg Beriaschwili, both the Soviet Union and Enju Waltschew Dimow, Bulgaria.

Since ending his active career Ringer former government employees lived in Ankara. There he died in December 2004 of a heart attack.
