History

Today about 20 minute-long tour on the Niagara River starts since 1846 something upstream of the Rainbow Bridge, where there are investors both on the American and the Canadian shore. The Maid passed the American Falls, and then go to the center of the Horseshoe Falls. The tour takes you as close to the falls that tourists gotten large amounts of water. Already in the 19th century, travelers were therefore equipped with oilskins. Meanwhile, these have been replaced by baggy Once films.

Before the Maid of the Mist there was already a cable ferry that crossed the flow and untiefenreiche Niagara Gorge. Maid of the Mist should replace it. But after 1848, the first bridge was built at Niagara Falls, the ride was no longer profitable. The owner decided to tourists to drive directly into the Horseshoe Falls. The first boat of that name, a steamer of wood was, in 1854, complemented by another Maid of the Mist, a steamer of steel. The name goes back to an alleged Legend of the Native Americans, but this is an invention of the first boat operators.
