Maillardia pendula

Trophis montana is a plant belonging to the family of the mulberry family ( Moraceae ).

Features

Trophis montana is a slender tree reaching a height of 10 meters. It has slender branches hanging. The alternate arranged leaves are divided into petiole and leaf blade. The petiole is 8 to 10 mm long. The simple leaf blade is at a length of 6 to 9 cm and a width of 2.5 to 3.5 cm is elliptical to elliptical, oblong with abrupt and narrow elongated Spreitenspitze. The triangular- ovoid stipules are 1 to 1.5 mm long.

The yellow male flowers are arranged in spherical, racemose inflorescences. The reddish brown fruits are egg-shaped with a length of about 1.3 cm and only include a ridged seeds.

Status

Trophis montana once came frequently to the Aldabra island of Grand Terre. After the destruction of vegetation by goats of the botanist Francis Raymond Fosberg reported in 1980 that this species is already extinct. According to the IUCN, however, a few specimens in the field of takamaka Grove survived on Grand Terre.

Taxonomy

The name Maillardia pendula in 1974 by Francis Raymond Fosberg in Miscellaneous Notes on the Flora of Aldabra and Neighbouring Islands: published Kew Bulletin, Volume 29, p 266, Table 2: III, In. All Maillardia species were remodeled in 1988 by Cornelis Christiaan mountain in The genera Trophis and Streblus ( Moraceae ). In: Proceedings of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen, Series C: Biological and Medical Sciences, Vol 91 (4), pp. 355 found in the genus Trophis. Synonyms for Trophis montana ( Leandri ) CCBerg are: Maillardia mandrarensis Leandri, Maillardia montana Leandri, Maillardia occidentalis Leandri, Maillardia orientalis Leandri, Maillardia pendula Fosberg.
