Maillezais

Maillezais is a commune with 975 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Vendée, in the region of Pays de la Loire.

Location

The village is located about 10 km southeast of Fontenay -le- Comte and about 25 km west of Niort on the banks of the Jeune Autise.

History

The village developed in close proximity and together with the local Benedictine abbey Maillezais.

Attractions

Next to the Abbey the Romanesque parish church of Saint -Nicolas is remarkable.
