The Main River is a river in the western part of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador belonging to Newfoundland Island in the south of the Great Northern Peninsula Peninsula.

The river was given the status of a Canadian Heritage River in 2001. 2009, the Main River Waterway Provincial Park was established to protect the catchment area of ​​the River Main.

Geography

The Main River has its source within the Gros Morne National Park in the Long Range Mountains at an altitude of 675 m. It flows in a southeasterly direction for a distance of 57 km, before flowing near the village of Sop 's Arm in the White Bay.

The river is a popular canoeing waters. At its flow path is Big Steady, a secluded valley with pristine forests, as well as an 8 km long canyon near its mouth. There are no settlements along the Main River. He is regarded as one of the last pristine rivers of Newfoundland.
