History

In the years 1806-1808 the Kingdom of Bavaria was divided into 15 districts (state ), whose name was directed by rivers. The Main circuit with capital Bamberg initially comprised 18 regional courts and since 1809 the immediate circle cities of Bamberg and Schweinfurt. In 1810 he was considerably enlarged by dissolution of Naabkreises. In 1812 he was again enlarged, in which he received, among other things, 12 District Courts of the Principality of Bayreuth. County seat was then Bayreuth. The Main Circle was renamed in 1817 in Upper Main District and somewhat enlarged. At the same time, the new Lower Main circuit was built. When King Ludwig I. prompted territorial reform of 29 November 1837 separation of the formerly belonging to Naabkreis Upper Palatinate district courts was renamed in Upper Franconia.
